Buddy goes to London!
On Saturday 3rd May, I was down in London for the weekend. Being a performer myself, I love to watch others on stage so I thought I would take the opportunity to see what was on in the West End. When I saw that Buddy was on at the Dutchess theatre, there was never going to be a contest so I immediately bought two tickets for myself and my girlfriend (who's the webmaster of this site) for the afternoon show.

I have to say the show was incredible. When we walked in, you could just feel the nostalgia with clips from the KDAV radio in Texas playing before the curtain was raised. All the music was 100% live and the sound had a real 50s raw feel to it. Taking the lead role of Buddy was Dean Elliot, who gave a magnificent portrayal of the legend himself and was a perfect look and sound alike. My girlfriend is not as fanatical about rock and roll music as myself, however, she thoroughly enjoyed the show, even though she gets to watch a Buddy Holly tribute every weekend!

The show followed Buddy’s life from the Early Days of the Crickets right through to his death, with the last half an hour being a re-enactment of Buddy’s last performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. All in all the show was a wonderful experience and was without a doubt the highlight of the weekend. I t certainly provided inspiration for me to go out and continue to perform my own Buddy Holly tribute and who knows, if I could get my acting up to scratch, maybe I could be taking the lead role of Buddy in the West End one day!
